Maricopa Police shoot armed suspect in Homestead

Early Saturday morning, the Maricopa Police Department received a report of a subject with gun in the Homestead community.

Police responded to the area of Lauren Road and Thornberry Lane around 1:00 am.  Upon arrival, officers confronted a male suspect holding a rifle in front of a residence.  When ordered to put the weapon down, the man threatened police and then raised the gun in the direction of one of the officers on scene.  The officer then fired, striking the subject.

The suspect was later transported to Maricopa County Medical Center and treated for gun shot wounds.  The man faces multiple felony charges in the case.

According to Maricopa PD’s Sgt Stephen Judd, 2 officers were involved in the shooting, one with a shotgun, the other with a handgun.  It is not clear at this time as to how many shots were fired.  The suspect was in surgery around 3am and is expected to survive.

No police officers were injured during the incident.  The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with investigation of the shooting.
