McDonald files claim against the City of Maricopa

Marty McDonald (Photo by Sam McCallie)Former Community Services Director Marty McDonald is filing a $510,000 claim against the City of Maricopa in regards to recent court action brought against him, and his subsequent dismissal from his post.

It was first announced in May that McDonald was among twelve people being released by the City due to budget cuts.  Shortly thereafter, however, came the announcement that McDonald had been indicted on several felony fraud charges as a result of an investigation conducted by the Phoenix Police Department, at the request of the City of Maricopa.  The investigation alleged that McDonald received around $10,000 in shipping discounts by linking his personal FedEx account to the City’s account.

Several months of mental anguish, as well as high attorney bills, followed for McOonald and his family until the Pinal County Attorney’s Office finally dropped the charges near the end of August.  Shortly before that, McDonald was terminated from his job.

According to sources, the claim asks for: $500,000 for general damages/ damage to reputation, $10,000 for reimbursement of attorney’s fees incurred in the criminal matter, a $25,000 donation to “Friends of the Library”, and a letter of apology from the City of Maricopa.

More information as it becomes available.

Sad news here. Marty deserves this after everything he gave to this city.

This is silly. The city held back a lot of damaging info on this individual. It’s not like they exposed his affairs to the public. But that will probably come out in the litigation. If he was as good at his job as he is prmoting himself he might be still employed.

Glad to see someone step up and confront this crooked city manager you have. We’re glad he is gone from Huntsville. The fallout from Ravenswood deal and the lawsuit the ex-Mayor of Huntsville are eye openers as are his personal reltionship with a certain employee.
