Juvenile arrested for the second time in three months for burglary

On Wednesday, at about 5:00 pm, Maricopa Police were sent to the 44000 block of West Rhinestone, in Cobblestone Farms, where they arrested a juvenile for burglary for the second time in three months.

Officers responded to the area on a report of suspicious activity when a neighbor reported seeing a subject exiting the backyard of a residence, carrying a back pack. Officers spoke to neighbors in the area and obtained information that led them to a house a few streets over. There, a male juvenile was contacted that matched the description of the suspect involved. The suspect juvenile, born in 1993, was positively identified by witnesses and was found to have stolen items in his possession.

It is believed that the suspect would knock on the door of a target residence to see if anyone was home. When no one would come to the door, he would proceed to the backyard and gain entry to the residence through unlocked doors or windows.

The investigation further revealed that the juvenile is connected to at least two other burglaries in the Cobblestone area in the last month where jewelry, electronics and clothing were taken.

The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Pinal County Juvenile Detention facility on felony charges related to burglary, trespassing and possession of stolen property. This juvenile had previously been arrested in October of 2008 by the Maricopa Police Department for similar burglaries that had occurred in the Villages community. Those charges are currently pending with Pinal County Juvenile Attorney’s Office.

The Maricopa Police Department wishes to express its thanks to the neighbors who called in the suspicious activity that led to the arrest of this burglary suspect.

The Police Department encourages residents to:

* Lock all doors and windows to discourage easy access to the interior of their homes.
* Make sure if you have any access points like “doggie-doors” for pets, that they are secure when not at home.
* Locking access gates that lead to the backyard will also add to the security of the property. If a would-be burglar has to jump a fence this raises the probability of someone nearby seeing this highly suspicious behavior.
* Leave a radio or television on while away to give the illusion that someone is home.
* All citizens are encouraged to watch their neighborhoods and contact police with any information on suspicious activity or other crimes occurring in the City of Maricopa.
