4th Annual Salsa Festival draws record crowd
Almost 8000 people filled Pacana Park on Saturday for the 4th Annual Maricopa Salsa Festival.
The Festival, which ran from Noon to 6:00 pm, featured a Kids Zone play area, food court with live music throughout the afternoon, helicopter rides, around 100 vendor booths showcasing local businesses, and the main attraction; 45 different salsas for attendess to taste and then vote on their favorites.
The winners were:
Best Guacamole: San Luis Salsa / Raymond Shaban
Best Hot Salsa: Jalepeno on a Steek / Becky Ellefson
Most Unusual Salsa: The Hendrix Experience / Minerva Hendrix (3rd win in a row for this category)
Best Mild Salsa: Cooper & Rueter Law Firm / Amada Landeros
Best Overall Salsa: Cooper & Rueter Law Firm / Amada Landeros

City Council candidate Carl Diedrich prepares his entry in the Mild Salsa category.
Incumbent candidate Will Dunn tries to heat things up!
Local insurance agent Minerva Hendrix won “Most Unusual Salsa” for the third year running!
Highway 238 RV Storage had one of many creatively decorated vendor booths.
Local travel agency Suz’s Cruises offered fun getaways.
Maricopa Properties and Wizards of Waz were two local realtors that were represented.
In addition to sharing a building, The Bargain Corner Boutique and Maricopa Mountain Plumbing shared a booth.
Local resident Kristen Carr promoted her pet-sitting business.
Tony Tellez promoted his popular 8523mine.com website.
The M*A*S*H Anti-Drug Coaltion was present…
As were a number of fundraising efforts to benefit local toddler Reiley Lake.
The Kids’ Play Zone featured lots to do including a bounce house and some cool refreshing snow!
Speaking of cool and refreshing, Maui Wowi served up deliciious Hawaiian smoothies…
And the local Knights of Columbus operated their usual soda concession.
The immensely popular Romy’s Ribs helped feed the masses.
Helicopter rides were available once again.
Booths for the Maricopa Police Department, the new MaricopaXpress bus service, and the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce lined the “community row”.
A brand new MaX bus was on hand for residents to check out. Service began this past Monday.
A record-setting crowd enjoyed the festivities.
