Team Province training for Tour de Cure

If you pass any bicyclists out enjoying the cooler weather, they just might be training for a 62-mile ride coming up early next year.

Maricopa’s own Team Province will be participating in Phoenix’s Tour de Cure on March 14th, 2009. The Tour de Cure is a series of fund-raising cycling events held in 40 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association.

The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Whether participants ride 10 miles or 100 miles, they will travel a route supported from start to finish with rest stops, food to fuel the journey and fans to cheer them on.

To help get ready for the big event, Team Province member Ed Joyal and Team Captain Keith Monk, himself a diabetic, participated in the 25-mile Tour de Tempe this past weekend.

In March, the team will be riding in the 62-mile race of the Tour de Cure. The ride will start in Cave Creek, wind through the Desert Hills, New River, and Anthem areas, and finally end up in the Desert Ridge area of north Phoenix.

The team is looking for more cyclists to join them. Riders from all communities of Maricopa are welcome. If you are unable to ride, donations are also being accepted.
