Business Profile: Tacos N’ More

Although Maricopa has several choices for Mexican Food, the most unique would likely be Tacos N’ More.  While most of Maricopa’s restaurant choices are located in the newer retail centers to the north, Tacos N’ More has its own building that lies in the southern end of town.

Another difference is in the food.  Different regions of Mexico have different styles of cooking.  The majority of Mexican recipes served in Arizona restaurants come from the Sonora and Sinaloa areas.

Joe and Mercy Vasquez, the owners of Tacos N’ More, come from El Paso, Texas.  El Paso is across the border from the Mexican state of Chihuahua.  The Vasquez family wanted to bring something different to Maricopa, so they enlisted Mercy’s mother to help create their menu using the Chihuahua-style of cooking and seasoning.

The restaurant opened in May of 2007 with a limited menu.  ”We wanted to see what the community wanted.”, explained Mercy.  After a time, more items were added.  The restaurant now boasts a full menu, including Tacos, Burritos, and Enchiladas.  The meat selection includes Shredded Beef, Carne Asada (Steak), Chicken, Pork, and Seasoned Pork (Adobada).  There is a full breakfast menu, including Huevos Rancheros, that is served all day long.  Menudo is also served on Saturdays and Sundays.

All food is made on site at Tacos N’ More.  A tour of the restaurant’s back room reveals a walk-in full of fresh meat and fresh vegetables.  All sauces and salsa are made fresh. The stockroom also contains whole pinto beans waiting to be made into Frijoles Refritos (Refried Beans).  Nothing is canned!

Ironically, this is the Vasquezs’ first venture into the restaurant business.  Previously Mercy worked 25 years in the ocean freight shipping business.  A job transfer brought them to Arizona, first to Ahwatukee, then Maricopa.

Don’t let the “historic” building fool you.  The interior and exterior have been completely remodeled, and the dining room boasts two large flat screen TV’s and ample air-conditioning and heating.  Free wireless internet is also available.

Tacos N’ More is also in the process of adding an outdoor patio.  When completed, the restaurant will feature live entertainment, such as mariachis, on Friday or Saturday nights.

Tacos N’ More’s remodeled dining room offers a comfortable place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Diners can help themselves to homemade salsas and other fresh ingredients to enhance their meal.
