Burglary Foiled by Quick-thinking Employee at Chitwoods

(Maricopa, AZ) MPD Press Release — On August 8, 2012, at approximately 4:30 am, officers responded to 19000 block of N. John Wayne Parkway, (Chitwood Feeds) in reference to a burglary.

An employee of the business that lives next door was awakened by barking dogs. He observed that the front door of the business was open and saw lights on in the store. Knowing the store should be closed he immediately phoned 911. Officers arrived on scene and observed two subjects exiting the store with a cash register and bags of dog food. The subjects saw our officers and ran back into the store.

A parameter was set up on the business with the help of Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the Ak-Chin Police Department as we had our K9 unit responding. After approximately an hour of announcing for the subjects to come out, they came out without incident. Both subjects are in custody and are being interviewed by Detectives.

The Maricopa Police Department would commend the citizen that called 911 for their quick action. The actions of this citizen led to a quick response from the police department and played an important role in the apprehension of the burglary subjects.
