SR238 to be restricted for road construction

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will resume paving State Route 238 (Smith-Enke Road), between Maricopa and Mobile, this week.

Crews will be working from Noon to 2:00 am each day, from today through Friday. Segments of the eastbound lane of SR 238 will be closed during work hours.

ADOT is cautioning drivers to expect the following:

One lane will be closed in the vicinity where construction crews will be working.

Crews will direct traffic in alternating directions through the work zone when the eastbound lane is closed.

Motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during peak traffic times.

The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph through the work zone.

Crews will work 14-hour shifts during the week.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

The intermittent lane closures are part of the SR 238: Mobile to SR 347 improvement project that includes repaving a segment of the roadway and installing a box culvert to improve drainage in the area. The overall project area stretches from milepost 31 to 45. The project is anticipated to be completed by early 2012.

The project schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, material availability and mechanical difficulties.
