News & Notes – January 7th, 2011

News & NotesGood morning and welcome to Friday!  Just a couple of new items for today:

Maricopa Police descended on DVD and Game Depot yesterday morning.  The store’s manager, Paul Long, was arrested on ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, specifically distributing, transporting, exhibiting, receiving, selling, purchasing, electronically transmitting, possessing or exchanging any visual depiction in which a minor is engaged in exploitive exhibition or other sexual conduct. Witnesses say at least one computer was seized by law enforcement. Long, 34, is currently being held without bond at the Pinal County Jail.

And the Maricopa City Council will hold a special meeting tonight at 6:00 pm in the Maricopa Unified School District Board Room, 44150 West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The sole item on the agenda is a resolution to appoint Vanessa Bueras as Interim City Manager. Bueras, the current City Clerk, will take the position on January 21st, the date current City Manager Kevin Evans’ tenure comes to an end. Evans and the Council agreed a severance deal last September after Evans decided not to pursue a new contract.

That’s all for now. Have a great weekend!
