Police warning of suspicious “campaign workers”

Maricopa PoliceOver the past two days the Maricopa Police Department has become aware of possible suspicious behavior occurring around the city.

According to Sgt Stephen Judd, police have received reports of two male subjects that have been canvassing local neighborhoods with campaign information. When the incidents were investigated, the City Council candidate, whose information was being presented, advised police that they had not authorized the activity.

Last year there were a series of daytime burglaries which occurred in several Maricopa communities where juveniles were knocking on doors. If someone came to the door they would advise they were looking for a lost pet. If no one came to the door, the subjects would attempt to make entry through the back sliding-glass door of the home, then burglarize the residence.

Babeu: Pinal County 3rd Best in Arizona for DUI Enforcement

Sheriff Paul BabeuOur Pinal County Regional DUI Task Force was created in March of 2009 and in less than one year we achieved top tier ranking of 3rd place out of all 16 DUI task forces in Arizona. Our new Motorcycle Team headed up by Sgt. Matt Thomas, worked closely with all local Police Departments. We worked 5 nights per week in December and arrested nearly 200 impaired drivers.

We continue to work every holiday and major events with our high profile and zero tolerance program. When working these special details, we maintain full coverage of staff to respond to emergency calls, yet we bring on at least 10 and sometimes more than 30 additional Deputies and local Police Officers and target a certain area of Pinal County. We have been in every area of the county and have achieved great success through this DUI saturation.

Pacana fishing restricted in advance of derby

(Photo by Howard Waggner)An exciting event for many, the annual Maricopa Fishing Derby will be held in just a little over a week.

In preparation for that event and to ensure that the experience is the best it can be for all of the eager participants, the City of Maricopa will be closing the lake at Pacana Park to fishing from Tuesday March 2nd through Friday March 5th.

“The lake will be stocked for the derby next week and this will allow the fish a few days to get used to their new surroundings, as well as make sure there are plenty of them in there for the derby,” said Community Services Director John Nixon.

Signs will also be posted to remind residents of the temporary fishing restriction.
