Terry GoddardThe holiday season has arrived, a time of year when many Arizonans give back to their communities. To help ensure a rewarding experience, Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard recommends consumers take the following precautions when making charitable donations:

    Do not pay bills or invoices you have received from charities unless you know you have already made a commitment to support them.

    Be skeptical of anyone asking for a donation by requesting your credit card number or bank account information over the phone unless you already donate to that charity.

McDonald: To the residents of Maricopa

Marty McDonald and FamilyOn behalf of my family, we want to wish everyone in Maricopa a, “Happy Holiday Season!”

I want to begin this article with a huge and sincere “Thank You” to everyone who has stood by me during what has easily been the most trying time of my life.  We have received tons of support from our friends, family, local business owners and the citizens of Maricopa.  To those that stood by us I want to thank you.

Recently, many of you have asked me to run for Mayor of Maricopa.  I have fielded this request from friends in the community, business owners, those running for council, residents and even employees within City Hall.  I have given this decision a great deal of thought over the past 3 months with consultation of friends, family and key advisors.

Marchione: Drowning in your water bill?

Alan MarchioneNo, you’re not drowning in your water bill, but if Global Water’s argument to the ACC on a proposed rate increase is convincing enough, due to the lack of a counter-argument, you may find yourself with yet another financial burden that will certainly make staying financially “afloat” a whole lot tougher.

Fact is, there’s never a guarantee that when an individual or business makes any investment, they’ll make a return on that investment.  If you or I lose money in the market, we can’t simply go door to door asking our neighbors for a hand-out to recoup or offset our losses.  Should it be any different for Global Water?  Calculated risk is part of the business of doing business, and lately, it would seem we’re all paying for the choices of others.  Many of us have witnessed our life savings take a significant hit, property taxes have gone up, additional secondary property taxes are on their way, many have lost their homes, electricity rates have already increased, and now we’re being challenged at the tap.

A Thanksgiving message from the Maricopa Police Department

Maricopa PoliceThis Thursday Americans nationwide will celebrate all we have to be thankful for. Many of us will travel to enjoy the long holiday weekend together with family and friends. The U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that over 90% of Americans will travel by car to reach their destination, making Thanksgiving the most heavily travelled holiday of the year.

Sadly, Thanksgiving is also our nation’s deadliest holiday period. Last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 389 passenger vehicle occupants died in motor vehicle crashes. Of those, 55% were unrestrained. Many of these needless deaths could have been averted by simply buckling up a seat belt. Some other major contributors to holiday traffic fatalities include;
