Personal information found in abandoned building

(Photo by Howard Waggner)A local photographer, out and about with his camera, made a discovery he didn’t expect this past week.

Maricopa360.com contributing photographer David French was taking some shots at the abandoned Papago Gin, on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Porter Road, when he made an interesting find.

In the partially collapsed office building of the gin site was a large amount of paperwork strewn about the floor.  Papers including personnel records of former gin employees with copies of identification cards and Social Security numbers.  An old checkbook was also discovered.

Restrictions to occur Thursday on Garvey Avenue

(Stock photo)A resurfacing project on Garvey Avenue will cause restrictions on Thursday, and temporarily close the roadway between John Wayne Parkway and Condrey Avenue for a short time.

The closure will start at 10:00 am, and will last for approximately forty-five minutes.  Access to the Maricopa Manor Business Center will be open from the west side access driveway off Condrey.  All traffic headed west on Garvey will be routed through Honeycutt Road to by-pass the closure.

Road resurfacing work will continue throughout the day on Garvey and there will be lane restrictions but no further closures.

Maricopa City HallCopa Cares yard waste and bulk trash disposal

The City of Maricopa is once again providing Maricopa citizens a location to dump yard waste free of charge. This year’s event will now include not only yard waste, but bulk trash disposal as well. The event is sponsored by the City of Maricopa, Waste Management and Ace Hardware and will be held October 30th, 31st, and November 1st. The dumpsters for the event will be located just east of John Wayne Parkway on the north side of Honeycutt Road. Not to be confused with the Public Works Department dumpsters, the Copa Cares dumpsters will be identified with the Copa Cares signage and located east of the City’s Public Works Yard. No commercial dumping will be allowed.

Public meeting to discuss SR347 railroad detour

(Photo by Sam McCallie)Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) will be will be conducting a public meeting on Thursday, October 29th, to discuss the temporary closing of John Wayne Parkway (SR347) for the addition of double-tracking at the crossing.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Maricopa Unified School District Administration Building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Residents will have the opportunity to hear presentations and ask questions of representative from UPRR, the Arizona Department of Transportation, City officials and others.

Operation ‘Los Tusa’ takes down drug trafficking organization

City of Maricopa to hold bridge dedication ceremony in honor of fallen officer

Officer Shane FigueroaMonday morning at 10:00 am, the City of Maricopa will hold a ceremony to dedicate the “Officer Shane Figueroa Memorial Bridge”, formerly known as Honeycutt Road bridge.

City officials will be joined by family members and representatives from the Maricopa Police Department along with fellow officers from the Phoenix Police Department. The Maricopa Fire Department Drum and Pipe Corps will open the ceremonies, followed by a flag presentation by the Maricopa Police Honor Guard. Councilmember Edward Farrell will read the official Resolution, followed by comments by Councilmember Joe Estes. All residents are invited to attend.
