Maricopa Fire Department battles early morning house fire
Tuesday morning, shortly after 6:30 am, the Maricopa Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at the southwest corner of Hathaway and Taft Avenues, near Maricopa City Hall.
Fire crews saw a large column of thick black smoke as they approached the mobile home. The initial unit on scene discovered a small shed that was burning, adjacent to the home, and fire coming from inside the house itself.
Additional fire units where called in and quickly made entry inside the home and preformed a rapid search before being pulled back out due to dangerous fire conditions. There was one person inside at the time of the fire and no firefighters were hurt during operations.

Maricopa woman arrested for stabbing boyfriend
Early Tuesday morning, shortly before 1:00 am, Maricopa Police responded to the 45000 block of west Lexington Avenue, in Maricopa.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 51 year-old male that had sustained a stab wound to his chest as a result of an apparent domestic dispute with his live-in girlfriend. The victim was treated at the scene by the Maricopa Fire Department and transported to a Phoenix hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While police were conducting their investigation, the suspect, identified as 38 year-old Cindy Coffin of Maricopa, returned to the residence where she was quickly apprehended by officers. Coffin was questioned about the incident and later booked at the Pinal County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault / Domestic Violence.

Maricopa City Council approves 2009-2010 budget
After City of Maricopa staff tackled the enormous task of balancing the City’s 2010 budget, the Maricopa City Council unanimously adopted an $82.8 million budget Monday night for fiscal year 2009-10, which begins July 1st, through to June 30th, 2010.
Next year’s general fund budget is eight percent less than this year’s amended budget.
The City underwent a major reorganization with this budget including the elimination of eight positions and a wage freeze. Employees have begun to be cross-trained in order to continue to provide excellent service to residents.

Fire in Mobile destroys vintage aircraft and motorcycle collection
Flames tore through an aircraft hangar Monday afternoon, destroying a man’s collection of vintage aircraft and motorcycles.
The fire was in a remote area of Mobile, just outside of the City of Maricopa, off Highway 238. Fire units from Maricopa, Ak-Chin, and Gila Bend were dispatched to the scene.
"Difficult access, the heat and a lack of water supply challenged the City of Maricopa fire crews as they fought to save the hangar and the valuable collection stored inside it," said Maricopa Fire spokesman Brad Pitassi. When firefighters arrived on scene the fire had spread, and the hangar was fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews went into a defensive operation and prevented the fire from spreading into the desert brush or any adjacent buildings.

Maricopa Fire Department has busy week
A series of vehicle accidents, and a minor house fire, kept the Maricopa Fire Department busy this past week.
A three-car collision blocked traffic at John Wayne and Rancho El Dorado Parkways on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 3:00 pm. Two of the cars received substantial damage, while the third was only minor. Maricopa Fire Department paramedics treated four patients on-scene. Two of the victims were then transported to Casa Grande Regional Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. (See related story)
