One injury and one death in Sunday night accident on I-10
A motorcycle accident on I-10, three miles south of Riggs Road, seriously injured an Eloy man, and claimed the life of his female passenger.
59 year-old Donald L Morris was headed eastbound when his 2002 Harley-Davidson struck a tarp which was lying in the middle of the road. The tarp became entangled in the rear wheel causing Morris to lose control of the bike. The motorcycle ended up overturning in the freeway’s median.
Morris was treated by paramedics, then transported to a Phoenix-area hospital. The passenger, 30 year-old Maria Patena, also of Eloy, died at the scene.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Morris was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. It is not known at this time whether Patena had done the same.
