Maricopa High School benefits from Target education program

As part of its September Take Charge of Education donation, Target Corporation awarded Maricopa High School with a check for $165.09.  This payout is a direct result of the parents, teachers and school supporters who participate in the program.

Take Charge of Education allows Target customers to register a school of their choice through the Target website.  Target will then donate up to 1% of every purchase they make with their Target Check, Target Credit, and Target Visa Credit Cards to their selected school.  The schools may use that money for whatever they need.

To date, Maricopa High School has earned $1056.65 from Take Charge of Education.  Over $246 million has been raised for schools nationwide since Target started the program back in 1997.  Payouts are made twice a year, in March and September.

Opinion: School Board should show consistency

When the Maricopa Unified School Board voted to not build a Middle School at the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado, I was disappointed but understood the reasoning, even if I disagreed.  The safety of our children was a paramount concern and that concern should outweigh all others.

Here we are, not much more than a year later and on Wednesday, September 24th, MUSD will take action on using the same location as a transportation facility.  This location is directly in the middle of a residential area, when finished and combined with neighboring communities will exceed 5000 homes, many of which occupied by families with small children.  If the school board is to follow the precedent they have already set by placing the safety of our children above all else, there is no alternative but to vote no on placing an industrial transportation facility at the Lakes.

Superintendent’s performance, new transportation yard on agenda for School Board

The Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board will meet Wednesday evening at Pima Butte Elementary School.

On the agenda is discussion and possible approval of District-owned property in The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado as the site for a District transportation center, maintenance yard, and District warehouse.  This property was originally earmarked as a possible site for a middle school, but this plan was scrapped due to the property’s proximity to major power lines.

The Governing Board may vote to move into executive session to discuss and conduct an interim assessment of Dr John Flores’ performance as District Superintendent.  This discussion may also take place in the open session should the superintendent request it.
