Sky Harbor east entrance to be restricted until next summer
Construction at Sky Harbor International Airport will slow roadway traffic entering the Airport from the east beginning August 26th. These roadway restrictions are expected to last nearly a year – through June 2009.
From August 26th, 2008 through June 2009 westbound lanes of Sky Harbor Boulevard south of Terminal 4 will be reduced from three to two lanes of traffic while construction crews improve the “C” Checkpoint at Terminal 4. Four security screening lanes are being added to Checkpoint “C” to create a total of eight. Because the C checkpoint is located on a bridge over Sky Harbor Boulevard, the construction will result in roadway delays. The bridge is being widened by 120 feet. Additional roadway traffic restrictions will take place during overnight hours.

Legacy School adopting contingency plan for start of school year
Maricopa’s Legacy Traditional School has hit another bump in the road to the 2008-2009 school year. The expansion of current temporary campus on Porter Road will not be completed on time, therefore, the school will be forced to begin the year with double sessions for the Kindergarten through 6th grade classes.
Originally Legacy was supposed to start the year in a new permanent campus. The school, which only held classes through 6th grade last year, made plans to expand through the junior-high grades and began hiring teachers and enrolling students accordingly.
Unfortunately the school’s original contractor was not able to deliver the new campus on time. Therefore, plans were made to expand the existing Porter campus, which consists entirely of modular “portable” buildings. Work began in late July to add classrooms, a cafeteria, library, paving, and other improvements to the site.
