Entrees Made Easy closes its doors
Brett and Sue Carlisle have closed their local Entrees Made Easy franchise. According to an article on The Maricopa Monitor’s website, the store “could no longer withstand the high rents and the faltering local support“. The Carlisles are taking some time to regroup and hope to reopen at a later date with a different name and format.

Maricopa Salsa Festival
Spring is just around the corner and plans are underway for the fourth annual Maricopa Salsa Festival to heat-up the season. The event will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.
This community event is free and is sponsored by 85239.com, a local media website. It will include an array of activities, including Vendor Village where over 90 businesses and organizations will provide information to the attendees.
In addition, plans include the salsa, guacamole and bean dip competition, live music, a beer and margarita garden, free tortilla chips, kids zone, junior salsa bar and salsa lessons for everyone.

Batter up! Maricopa to host local Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run competition
Area youth are invited to come out to compete in the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run local competition in Maricopa. Pitch, Hit & Run is a national program that encourages local youth participation in America’s favorite pastime and emphasizes the fun of baseball competition. The competition will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 18 at Pacana Park.
Pitch, Hit and run provides boys and girls ages 7 to 14 a free opportunity to showcase their excellence in the core baseball skills of pitching, hitting and running. Competitors have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including the team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2008 MLB All-Star Game.

ADOT Update
Eastbound I-10 narrows near Wild Horse Pass
Eastbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between Chandler Boulevard and Wild Horse Pass Boulevard from 11:00 p.m. Friday (Apr. 4) to 5:00 a.m. Monday (Apr. 7) for rubberized asphalt paving. Eastbound I-10 on ramps at Chandler Boulevard and Wild Horse Pass will be closed. BothLoop 202 rampsto eastbound I-10 will be closed. DETOUR: Use the southbound Loop 101 or eastbound/westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to access southbound Price Road. Continue south on Price Road and go west on Queen Creek Road to reach eastbound I-10, or use southbound Arizona Avenue and State Route 587 to also access I-10.
Lane Closure on Southbound SR-347
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is scheduled to close one lane of southbound State Route 347, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, and Tuesday, April 22 for ten miles, between Farrell Road and State Route 84, to repair the road.One lane of traffic will be open at all times. Drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes.
Motorists are advised to watch for construction personnel and public safety officers and to obey all posted speed limit signs and detour routes while traveling through the construction area.
Police K-9 Drug Sweep at Maricopa High School.
On April 4, between 8:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m., a unified multi-agency response plan was carried out at the Maricopa High School campus, 45012 W. Honeycutt Ave. This response was an answer to numerous community concerns surrounding drug use and drug activity on and near the high school campus.

Maricopa residents urged to fill out survey on jobs
If you commute to work, City Manager Kevin Evans wants to know what you do and where you go.
In an effort to bring employment to the City, Evans is working with the Economic Development Division to gather labor information from Maricopa residents that commute into the valley for work.
“Bringing new business into the community is the key initiative for the Economic Development Division,” states Danielle Casey, economic development staff member. Read more
