Maricopa Titans looking for baseball players
The Maricopa Titans are looking for baseball players, aged 11 to 14, to join the team.
The Titans will be holding tryouts this Saturday, June 27th, from 3:00 to 6:30 pm at Pacana Park. The team’s season begins August 1st.
Those who are unable to attend this weekend, but would still like to tryout, can contact Coach Jorge Romero at (213) 999-9431, or email maricopa_titans@yahoo.com.
Pacana Park is located at 19000 North Porter Road, in Maricopa.
Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run coming in May
Area youth are invited to come out to compete in the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run local competition in Maricopa. Pitch, Hit & Run is a national program that encourages local youth participation in America’s favorite pastime and emphasizes the fun of baseball competition. The competition will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 9th, at Pacana Park.
Pitch, Hit and run provides boys and girls ages 7 to 14 a free opportunity to showcase their excellence in the core baseball skills of pitching, hitting and running. Competitors have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including the team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2009 MLB All-Star Game.

Local baseball team holding laser tag fundraiser
Help support local baseball team, the Maricopa Titans, and have fun doing it. The team will be holding a fundraiser this Tuesday, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at Stratum Laser Tag in Mesa.
For $25, you receive 3 hours of laser tag along with 2 slices of pizza and a large drink. Stratum recommends that players be at least 5 years old, however, there is a play area for smaller children as well. Stratum also has a wide variety of arcade games.
Stratum has a full-service concession stand, but attendees are encouraged to purchase food tickets from a team player as the Maricopa Titans will get a percentage of these sales. The team does not from concession stand sales.

Maricopa Parks and Recreation awarded Youth Football Grant
Maricopa’s Parks and Recreation Division was one of over 450 agencies that applied for the NRPA/USA Football Youth Football Grant. Maricopa submitted detailed information concerning the state of youth football in the community in order to qualify for funding. The City received funding support for youth flag football programs in order to provide training programs for parent volunteers.
“This grant will enable the parents who volunteer their time the opportunity to receive professional training in officiating youth flag football,” stated David Aviles, Adult and Youth Sports Coordinator. “The end result is to provide a positive experience for Maricopa’s youth.”

New Maricopa High School gymnasium sees action tonight
The Maricopa High School Girls’ Basketball team has a playoff game tonight at the school, 45012 West Honeycutt Avenue.
This is the first official game to be played in Maricopa’s new gymnasium. The gym is part of the ongoing renovation project at the 50 year-old high school.
Their opponent is Estrella Foothills High School and the game begins at 7:00 pm.
“We are encouraging the entire community to come support our girls and also come see this wonderful new venue,” said Maricopa Unified School District spokesman Tom Beckett.
Maricopa Rams particpate in state soccer tournament
The Maricopa High School Rams soccer team appeared in the Boys State Soccer Tournament this past weekend.
