Smith: I want your ideas for the 2012 Legislative Session!

I sent this message out before the start of the 2011 session and I felt it was important to send it to you again before the start of the upcoming 2012 session.

I know that my job is to listen to the constituents of my district to find out what is important to them and I take that job very seriously, so this email is an attempt to try to do just that. That being said, if you have any ideas as to what you would like to see introduced in the upcoming legislative session please let me your thoughts. Ideas can range in anything from the local level all the way to state-wide (or in some cases) national topics. Simply tell me in a few sentences what you like or dislike about an issue and what you would like to see done to change it.

Maricopa becomes first Pinal County city to establish a Citizen Corps Council

The City of Maricopa is proud to announce that “For Our City Maricopa”, a volunteer organization that provides structure and infrastructure for community volunteer programs, has become Pinal County’s first Citizen Corps Council.

Citizen Corps was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. It provides opportunities for people to participate in a range of activities to make their families, homes and communities safe from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds. Citizen Corps programs build on the successful efforts that are in place in many communities around the country to prevent crime and respond to emergencies.

City to offer scholarship match program to area nonprofits

The City of Maricopa is excited to offer an opportunity for local nonprofit agencies to provide academic scholarships to high school students in Maricopa.

This program will help Maricopa’s youth succeed academically by making higher education more accessible, thereby developing a highly-educated workforce in Maricopa. In addition, the program will assist in building lasting partnerships between the City and local community organizations while instilling a sense of community service in Maricopa’s youth.

To be eligible to participate in the program, an organization must have a 501 (c) status, must provide existing services or contributions to Maricopa residents and must provide financial proof indicating the ability to pay by February 29th, 2012. The application process is currently open and will continue through 5:00 pm, Jan. 31st, 2012.

Santa returns to Maricopa for another Christmas

For the 6th year running, Santa and Mrs Claus arrived at the “Southwest Pole” in Maricopa the day after Thanksgiving. And for the 3rd year in a row, they were safely brought to their home by the Maricopa Fire Department.

Once again they were also escorted in by their very own cheerleading squad, the Sequoia Pathway Academy Pumas!

The Clauses’ winter home in Desert Cedars was packed on Friday evening as children and adults alike waited with deep anticipation for the event that has truly come to signify the official arrival of the holiday season for Maricopa residents, the “12 Days of Christmas with Mr and Mrs Claus”.

County supervisor endorses Kimball for Council

Maricopa City Council candidate Bridger Kimball has received an endorsement from Pinal County District 2 Supervisor Bryan Martyn.

PCSO has busy week in the Vekol Valley

It was a busy week for PCSO patrol deputies and members of SWAT who were assisted by Search and Rescue. From November 14th to 19th, deputies came across 4,094 lbs. of marijuana, made 10 arrests and seized one hand gun.
