Potter: Elected officials should follow the rules
There are rules in life. And then there are rules and laws for our elected officials. These rules need to apply to everyone who swears an oath to be Mayor of Maricopa. Not open to manipulation to serve a personal interest. If a rule needs to be changed, there is a process that must be followed. This is both the letter of the law, and the spirit of it.
I don’t feel that this is happening in Maricopa right now.
There’s at least an appearance that the everyday person is not being represented fairly. I hold this perspective because I have seen for myself the lack of transparency and dealings that seem to benefit individuals instead of the City and its people. It seems as though the other party in the actions knows exactly what is happening, but the public is left in the dark. As one Council member told me, I have to “connect the dots” with agenda items for myself. He wouldn’t tell me what was going on in our own Council Meeting.

Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in late night manhunt
Downtown Maricopa was abuzz with police activity, late Thursday night into Friday morning, as a result of the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
Around 9:00 Thursday evening, detectives from the DPS Vehicle Theft Task Force, which is made up of multiple local law enforcement agencies, located a stolen Ford pick-up truck in the vicinity of Interstate 10 and State Route 347. Detectives followed the truck down SR347 into Maricopa where they attempted to stop the vehicle.
The two male suspects did not pull over and led police on a short chase, then abandoned the truck on Pershing Street, just north of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, and fled on foot into the neighborhood.

Maricopa boy badly burned in kitchen accident
A young Maricopa boy was flown with serious burns to the Arizona Burn Center at the Maricopa Medical Center Wednesday afternoon after a kitchen accident.
Around noon, the Maricopa Fire Department was summoned to a reported burn injury in the 45000 block of West Dirk Street in Maricopa Meadows. When units arrived on the scene, they found the five year-old with second degree burns to his face, chest and arms.
The boy’s mother reported that she had been making pasta for lunch and was preparing to drain the water, but did not realize that the child was standing behind her. As the mother turned around with the pot in her hand, she bumped into the child, resulting his being splashed with the scalding water, causing the serious burns.

Maricopa High School band and orchestra receive positive ratings at recent events
This past weekend the band and colorguard programs at Maricopa High School each made some notable and historical achievements.
On Friday, the band and orchestra traveled to McClintock High School for the ABODA Area Concert Festival. The orchestra received a rating of “good” and numerous praises from judges and spectators for a solid performance in spite of their small size.
The band received a rating of “excellent” which represents a significant achievement for playing before a tough panel of judges. This rating is their best to date in an ABODA concert festival and qualifies them to perform in the ABODA State Concert Festival for the first time in school history! They will travel to that festival on April 27th.
